2010
Well here we are in 2010......so much to be grateful for. Niklas is approaching the 9 month mark without seizures. He is in Kindergarden and loving it. Everyone in the family is adapting to our new and improved lifestyle. As silly as it sounds to most we are now able to go out beyond 5pm with the family AND Brent and I are able to get out without kids. We were able to take a trip to San Diego a few months ago and stayed for a week which would of never happened before May 2009. Our vactions came to a halt about 2 years ago because we couldn't travel overnight anywhere because Niklas didn't want to be far from home at night knowing he would have seizures. we also went to Tahoe this past Christmas break and Nik had such a good time in the snow. He was in heaven. We tried to take a ton of day trips throughout the 2 years niklas was really sick to make up for the lack of nightlife! Niklas still takes medication daily two times a day and he will continue to do so until he hits a year seizure free. At a year the doctors will slowly wean him off of his medication to see if he is still able to maintain his daily routine of no seizures. He is on a lower dose of medication post surgery thank god. Still working on my book not as often as I would like but I'm able to carve out a little time! Hopefully by mid year I will complete my book and get it circulating around town! For today we are fantastic.....We say daily prayers for Niklas so he can continue to have his carefree life, freedom from seizures, fear and anxiety, and happiness. Seizures stole any sort of freedom and happiness he had during the 2 1/2 years he suffered seizures. He has been able to regain his confidence and self-esteem these past 9 months. He taught himself how to ride a two wheeler in the backyard without training wheels two months after the surgery. Nik's will and determination are unbelieveable.
